Is PostScan Mail legit?
Yes. PostScan Mail is an established virtual-mailbox operator, not simply an address directory. The company says it began in Anaheim, California, in 2012 and today offers a network of more than 1,000 mailing addresses in the United States and internationally. It operates a web dashboard and mobile apps through which customers can view incoming items and request mail handling.
It is a real service, but legitimacy is not the same as universal address acceptance. A mailbox at a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA) is a mailing address; it should not automatically be represented as a residence, a principal office or an address accepted by every bank or registration authority. Check our CMRA explainer and virtual business address guide for the distinctions.
What makes PostScan Mail useful?
The real benefit is control over physical mail without having to be physically near it. Once correspondence arrives at your selected address, you can inspect envelope images, open and scan selected items, request forwarding, manage packages and discard unwanted mail from a digital account.
Broad address choice
The 1,000+ location network gives users options across cities and states, rather than tying them to one processing center.
Central digital inbox
Web and mobile access, notifications, scanned PDFs, sender indexing and digital archiving simplify routine correspondence.
Forward or collect
Send selected items to another address, combine several into one shipment or use pickup where your mail center supports it.
Room to grow
Start with low-volume personal mail, then add recipients or explore business and higher-volume mailroom options.
That adaptability makes sense for RVers, expats, remote professionals, small businesses and people moving between addresses. An address can remain stable as your physical location changes, provided you keep your service active and maintain the required authorizations.

PostScan Mail plans and pricing
The three main personal plans differ in item volume, free scans and number of recipients. The prices below are the provider's published starting rates, not promises that every city charges the same.
| Personal plan | Monthly starting rate | Incoming items/mo | Included Open & Scans/mo | Recipients |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $10 | 30 | 0 | 1 |
| Standard | $20 | 60 | 5 | 2 |
| Premium | $30 | 120 | 10 | 4 |
Annual billing can change the value equation. At eligible base-rate locations, the provider lists Starter at $100/year (equivalent to $8.33/month), Standard at $200/year ($16.67/month) and Premium at $300/year ($25/month). Annual Standard includes 10 scans and 3 recipients, while annual Premium includes 20 scans and 6 recipients. These allowances differ from the monthly versions; the full annual amount is due upfront.
Location prices vary. For example, a San Francisco location advertises monthly personal plans at $15, $25 and $35, and another location may price them differently. Always select the exact address before comparing the final checkout amount.
The company also advertises higher-volume Startup, Business and Enterprise mailroom packages. These are distinct from personal mailbox subscriptions; check the dedicated commercial terms if you process hundreds of incoming items monthly.
Open & Scan, storage and digital management
Every received piece of mail can be represented in your dashboard by an outside-envelope or parcel image. Open & Scan is the additional service that turns selected physical contents into viewable digital documents. On the published pay-as-you-go fee schedule, it costs $2 per item for up to 10 pages, then $0.25 per additional page. The included scans on Standard or Premium reduce this cost when your usage stays within the allowance.
This is why Starter at $10 is not automatically the cheapest plan for everyone. Someone scanning many envelopes could spend more on Starter than on Standard even before paying for forwarding.
Cloud storage is not physical storage. The provider advertises online access and storage for digital records, but the physical originals have separate holding periods. On the published general fee schedule, physical letters are free for 14 days on monthly billing, or 30 days with annual billing, then cost $0.05 per envelope per day. Packages have a shorter free window: 3 days monthly or 7 days annually, then $0.10 per pound per day. Ask about your selected location when timing matters.
The provider additionally advertises optional AI mail summaries, automation capabilities and business integrations. Those features may be useful for higher-volume customers, but verify the current allocation and access conditions for the specific plan you select.
Mail forwarding, packages and local pickup
PostScan Mail lets customers forward selected letters and parcels and consolidate multiple items in a single shipment. The general published handling fee is $2 for the first item plus $0.50 for each additional item in the same shipment, excluding carrier postage. Larger items, storage beyond free periods and particular requests may add other charges.
The ability to pick up an item locally can be a differentiator if you live near your chosen mailbox. However, the provider's general pricing page says most locations offer free local pickup while some charge a fee; at least one location-specific pricing page lists paid pickups. Do not assume pickup is universally free. Confirm hours, ID requirements and any pickup charge with the actual mail center.
For travelers and people living overseas, forwarding offers a useful backup when a physical original matters. For someone who mainly reads scanned correspondence, it can be more economical to ship selectively rather than forward everything. Read our mail forwarding guide for the trade-offs.
What does PostScan Mail really cost? Three examples
These examples use base-rate monthly plans and published standard handling fees. They are illustrations, not personalized quotes. Taxes, location surcharges, page overages, physical storage and actual carrier postage are excluded unless specified.
| Monthly example | Usage assumption | Illustrative charge |
|---|---|---|
| Light personal use | Starter $10 + 3 Open & Scan requests ($6); no shipments | $16 |
| Regular scanner | Standard $20 + 5 included Open & Scans; one consolidated 2-item shipment ($2.50) | $22.50 + carrier postage |
| Higher-volume user | Premium $30 + 10 included Open & Scans + 2 extra scans ($4); one 3-item shipment ($3) | $37 + carrier postage |
All examples assume incoming items remain within plan limits, scanned documents are at most 10 pages each, and no items exceed their free physical storage period. Additional received items cost $0.50 each according to the provider's published fee list.

Business addresses, recipients and USPS Form 1583
PostScan Mail can be a practical mailing hub for freelancers, LLC owners and teams: receive mail in an accepted company name, share workflows across permitted recipients and expand to additional addresses as operations grow. Extra recipients beyond the plan allowance are listed at $5 per month per person, with verification requirements for each recipient.
But the difference between a mailing address, registered business office, residential address and Registered Agent address still matters. PostScan Mail markets virtual business-address and Registered Agent solutions; that does not make every ordinary mailbox location eligible for every legal or financial purpose. Verify the address type, local statutes and acceptance criteria before committing to a company registration.
For U.S. CMRA mailboxes, USPS Form 1583 authorizes the mail center to accept mail for you. PostScan Mail offers an online form workflow and notarization options, and generally requires one acceptable photo ID and one address ID. Its support materials distinguish those identity documents from the mailbox address itself. See our Form 1583 guide for an overview.
Address continuity has an exit consideration: PostScan Mail's FAQ states that USPS Change of Address cannot be used to forward mail away from a CMRA mailbox. If you close or change providers, plan to update important senders directly.
Real limitations to know before signing up
PostScan Mail's strengths are genuine, but buyers should pay attention to the operational details: scanning is not free on monthly Starter; shipping costs include carrier charges; location pricing and local-pickup terms can vary; and accumulated mail or packages can trigger daily storage fees after a relatively short free period.
Because this is a distributed location network, the most important due-diligence step is checking your chosen address: what kind of mail center handles it, its hours, package policy, pickup conditions and any special location surcharge. This is especially important for time-sensitive documents and business correspondence.

PostScan Mail is most attractive for users who value a broad address network and a flexible digital mailbox. It fits customers who want package receiving alongside mail, sometimes need local collection, or may scale up from basic personal use to more substantial business handling.
For users who mostly want a large geographic selection of addresses, compare it with iPostal1. For travelers who place a premium on included scan pages and a travel-oriented mail-management workflow, compare Traveling Mailbox. Our provider comparison shows the trade-offs side by side.
MailboxScout verdict
PostScan Mail earns its place among the main virtual mailbox services because it combines location choice, remote mail handling and packages in one adaptable platform. The best value is often not the headline $10 Starter subscription, but the plan that covers your expected scanning and recipient needs. Check the exact address, calculate postage separately and keep the CMRA address distinction in mind.
Our score of 8.9/10 reflects MailboxScout's editorial evaluation of features, pricing transparency and suitability across different use cases. It is separate from customer-submitted feedback in User Reviews.
