VirtualPostMail Review (2026): Is It Legit, and What Does It Really Cost?

VirtualPostMail (VPM) is more than a place to receive letters. Its virtual-mailbox plans combine scanning, U.S. check deposits, package forwarding, document handling and, in eligible states, a free Registered Agent. The important distinction is what its mailbox address can do — and what requires a separate physical-office solution.

Quick verdict: VirtualPostMail stands out for business owners who value included scans, tightly integrated mail handling, U.S. check deposits, security documentation and potential Registered Agent savings. It offers more operational depth than its $20 entry price suggests, but has fewer address locations than the large aggregators, no walk-in mail pickup, and a virtual mailbox does not come with a bank-ready physical address or lease.

Is VirtualPostMail legit?

Yes. VirtualPostMail is an established operating U.S. mail-management provider, not simply a directory of hypothetical addresses. It is operated by Virtual Post Solutions, Inc., and the company reports handling mail since 2009. Its published documentation explains how incoming envelopes are digitized, how physical originals are forwarded and how check deposits are processed.

That is evidence of a real commercial service; it is not proof that every turnaround time is guaranteed or that every institution will accept a VPM address. The provider itself draws a sharp distinction between a Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA) mailbox and a separately leased commercial office. Our CMRA guide explains why that difference matters.

What this review evaluates: published plan terms, documented features, fees, security claims and use-case fit. MailboxScout's 8.8/10 editorial rating is distinct from readers' firsthand experiences, which belong in our separate User Reviews section.

What makes VirtualPostMail useful?

The practical benefit is continuity: incoming U.S. mail reaches one stable mailbox, while the person or team handling it can work from another state or another country. Instead of forwarding every piece blindly, you can request scans of relevant documents, discard what is unnecessary and ship only originals that matter.

✉

Mail turned into searchable records

Envelope and content scans, OCR-enabled PDFs and unlimited online document storage support a more organized workflow.

$

U.S. check deposits

Have qualifying checks endorsed and mailed to a bank that accepts mail-in deposits, without first receiving them personally.

⚖

Registered Agent potential

Eligible companies can use VPM as Registered Agent without an extra subscription charge in five supported states.

⚙

Business-oriented controls

Scans, recipients, API integration, and security documentation make the service especially relevant for operational mail.

For remote founders, consultants, international business owners and LLCs, this can be a meaningful improvement over an ordinary PO Box. For occasional personal mail, however, a cheaper provider may deliver sufficient value.

VirtualPostMail pricing: Starter, Plus, Business and Premium

Unlike location marketplaces with widely variable local operators, VPM publishes a relatively straightforward four-plan structure. The critical comparisons are incoming envelope scans, content scans and authorized recipient names. These are not interchangeable limits: a letter received, an envelope image and a ten-page content scan are different activities.

PlanMonthlyEnvelope scansContent scansRecipients
Starter$2025102
Plus$35Unlimited505
Business$60Unlimited10010
Premium$90Unlimited15020

Overages: Starter charges $0.50 for each envelope scan beyond its 25 included items. Additional content scans are advertised at $1 per request for up to 10 pages, plus $0.25 for every further page. Additional recipients are $5/month on Starter, $3 on Plus, and $2 on Business or Premium. Fees are per the published plan page and should be rechecked before checkout.

What is actually included? VPM advertises free secure shredding, unlimited cloud storage of scanned items, OCR PDFs, API integration and 60 days of physical mail storage. An allowance of 10 content scans does not mean 10 unlimited-length documents: extra-page charges can still apply.

Business and Premium also list automated check deposit; the provider's pricing table does not include that feature on Starter or Plus. VPM additionally advertises enterprise solutions for higher volumes and custom handling.

Mail scanning: the service that changes the workflow

A new item arrives at the mailbox, the team records it in your online account, and you can decide whether to request an Open & Scan. That lets a remote owner read routine invoices or urgent correspondence without waiting for international forwarding.

The service advertises 200-DPI color scans, OCR-enabled PDFs and delivery to email. Those features are particularly useful for bookkeeping, remote administration, recurring mail from clients or document-heavy businesses. Scan turnaround is operational rather than instantaneous; sensitive originals may still need physical handling.

Practical cost detail: If a Starter customer uses 13 content scans in one billing cycle and each request stays within 10 pages, the three extra scans cost $3. If one item requires 15 pages, an additional five-page charge may apply to that scan.

Mail forwarding, packages and consolidation

VirtualPostMail receives physical mail at its participating U.S. mail-processing addresses and offers domestic and international forwarding. The value is selective shipping: send only what cannot be handled digitally, rather than paying to forward every envelope.

Packages can be grouped into a single shipment and carriers or speed options can be selected depending on the destination. VPM states that most outgoing shipment requests are processed within a business day, but transit times, customs rules, insurance and delivery exceptions vary.

Shipping charges are separate from the subscription. Depending on the service, expect carrier postage, handling or consolidation-related charges. An international package can easily cost more than the monthly mailbox subscription itself; use VPM's shipping price details rather than treating its $20 entry price as an all-in shipping quote.

One limit for travelers who want to collect parcels personally: VPM does not list in-person pickup as a standard mailbox feature. If local pickup is essential, compare PostScan Mail or an eligible local Anytime Mailbox operator.

Check Deposit: a particularly useful VPM feature

VirtualPostMail can help an American business receive paper check payments without its owner needing to be physically present. After an appropriate open-and-scan request, you instruct VPM to process qualifying checks for an eligible U.S. bank account that accepts mail-in deposits.

According to VPM, staff endorse the checks for deposit and send them with a deposit slip. The company generally dispatches deposit requests within one business day. This is not an instant transfer: the bank controls acceptance, clearance and when money becomes available. The payee name must match the bank account, and different destination accounts count as separate deposit requests.

Published fee: $10 per deposit request including its first check and the advertised USPS First Class tracked mailing. Add $1.50 for each further check in the same deposit. Faster or alternative shipping can cost more.

For example, one deposit containing three checks for the same bank account costs $13 in VPM deposit fees ($10 + $1.50 + $1.50), apart from any requested scans or special shipping. A bank can reject an ineligible check even when VPM has properly processed the mailing.

Free Registered Agent: real value, with state conditions

One of VirtualPostMail's best differentiators is its advertised free Registered Agent service when paired with a qualifying mailbox plan. At the time of review, the supported states are California, Delaware, Florida, Nevada and Texas.

To qualify, the mailbox must be in the same state as the required Registered Agent appointment, the business must be registered in that state, and the business name must be included as an authorized mailbox recipient. This can reduce the cost of operating a remote LLC, but it is not a universal Registered Agent service for all 50 states.

State filing and company-type rules still apply. Delaware corporations in particular should review VPM's guidance on restrictions involving principal-office and Registered Agent addresses. Check state-specific eligibility before changing an existing agent.

Important distinction: a Registered Agent provides a point of receipt for legal service; the ordinary virtual-mailbox address does not thereby become acceptable as a bank's physical business address. Read our virtual business address guide for the wider picture.

Virtual Mailbox vs. TruLease vs. TruResidence

This is where VPM becomes more interesting — and where comparisons often become misleading. The company offers different products for fundamentally different address requirements:

ProductPurposeWhat it does not automatically provide
Virtual MailboxReceive, scan, forward and organize correspondence at a CMRA mailing address.A commercial-office lease, residential proof or guaranteed acceptance for banking/KYC.
TruLeaseRent access to an actual commercial office address with an agreement and optional utility documentation for business verification.A guarantee that every bank or platform will approve an applicant.
TruResidenceSeparate residential-address service intended for certain personal-account or residency-document needs.A substitute for real legal residence or a guarantee of government acceptance.

The distinction matters most to overseas LLC owners opening U.S. financial or merchant accounts. VPM expressly warns that a standard virtual mailbox cannot satisfy many financial institutions' physical-address verification requirements. A street-formatted address is not the same thing as a leased office. TruLease is priced separately; do not assume it is included in the $20 mailbox plan.

Another trade-off: VPM explains that mail arriving at a TruLease partner office may require onward transfer to a processing facility, creating a delay of roughly a week. Ordinary VPM mailbox mail is usually processed much sooner.

Physical storage and document retention

VPM advertises 60 days of free physical mail storage for standard mailboxes. That provides room to decide whether to forward, scan or discard an original without rushing each day. But physical storage is not unlimited.

Its published custom-service price schedule lists extensions of $1.50 per letter or magazine per 30 days and $20 per package per 30 days. Package returns, special requests and atypical handling may have separate charges.

By contrast, unlimited digital storage refers to retained scans in the online account. It does not mean that VPM will hold every physical envelope or package indefinitely at no extra charge.

Privacy, SOC 2 and HIPAA-related features

VPM publishes more detailed security material than many virtual-mailbox providers, including SOC 2 Type II certification claims, a public SOC 3 summary and two-factor authentication. The company also publishes HIPAA-related security information for healthcare organizations.

Its current plan comparison lists a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) as available on Business and Premium plans, not Starter or Plus. Healthcare buyers should obtain the required agreement and confirm the intended mail workflow before sending protected health information.

Mail handled by human staff necessarily carries operational and privacy considerations. Review access permissions, document retention policies and the provider's security documentation against your actual needs. Our privacy and mail-handling guide provides a practical checklist.

What does VirtualPostMail really cost?

These examples are illustrations using published plan allowances, not quotes for a specific mailbox or guaranteed invoices. Shipping, local taxes, long documents, storage extensions and any additional services are excluded unless explicitly stated.

Example usage in one billing cycleCalculationIllustrative total
Low-volume remote founderStarter $20 + 12 incoming envelopes + 6 short content scans (within the included limits)$20
Growing consulting practicePlus $35 + 80 incoming envelopes + 45 short content scans + 5 authorized recipients$35
Startup receiving checksStarter $20 + 12 short content scans (2 scans beyond allowance = $2) + one deposit with 2 checks ($10 + $1.50)$33.50

In the third example, the checks are assumed to arrive among the Starter plan's 25 included envelope scans, and all scanned items are ten pages or fewer. Bank processing fees, extra handling and upgraded shipping are not included.

For cost-sensitive users, the main decision is whether VPM's included scans and business capabilities justify the higher base price. For a family receiving almost no important mail, the answer may be no. For a company that regularly needs to review and act on correspondence remotely, VPM's workflow can be well worth comparing.

What to check before choosing VPM

Advantages

  • Included interior scans on every standard plan.
  • Free Registered Agent in five states when eligible.
  • Physical check-deposit workflow with published per-request pricing.
  • 60 days of physical storage plus unlimited digital scan storage.
  • Business, automation, OCR and security-oriented capabilities.

Limitations

  • $20 starting price exceeds several budget competitors.
  • Fewer mailbox locations than large multi-operator networks.
  • No standard walk-in pickup for mail.
  • Shipping, storage extensions, extra pages and recipients can add fees.
  • Virtual Mailbox is not TruLease and is not an automatically bank-accepted physical address.

VPM has a different value proposition from iPostal1, which emphasizes a vast location network, and Traveling Mailbox, which is more oriented toward individual remote-mail workflows. VPM's strongest case lies with small businesses, U.S. founders operating internationally and organizations with repeatable mail-processing tasks.

Who should choose VirtualPostMail?

Best fit: LLC owners who need legitimate correspondence handling and a possible qualifying Registered Agent; remote teams with recurring invoices and contracts; professionals who value scanned PDF workflows; businesses receiving U.S. check payments; and international founders who understand exactly which type of address their bank or merchant platform requires.

Consider another option if: you mostly want the lowest-priced address, need hundreds of possible cities, require in-person mail collection or expect the $20 mailbox to satisfy every financial-institution proof-of-address requirement.

The virtual-mailbox benefits guide explores the broader advantage: your work location can change without forcing all correspondence to follow you physically.

MailboxScout verdict

VirtualPostMail is a serious contender because it turns postal mail into a relatively structured digital business process. The included content scans, mail-to-bank check deposits, optional business integrations and Registered Agent eligibility offer clear value beyond a headline address price.

The key to choosing it well is to buy the correct VPM product. The virtual mailbox manages mail; TruLease serves a different commercial-address need; and TruResidence serves a different personal-address need. Blurring those products is the most likely way for a buyer to have unrealistic expectations.
