Cheapest Virtual Mailbox Services in 2026

A low subscription price is not the same as a low final bill. We compare seven virtual mailbox services by monthly payments, annual pricing, content scans and mail forwarding—then run the same usage through our shared cost model.

Quick answer

Three different meanings of “cheapest”

Low annual subscription

From $99/year

PO Box Zone advertises $99/year in Nevada and Wyoming. iPostal1 also lists a $99/year Green offer at eligible locations. Both can cost more once services are used.

PO Box Zone review → · iPostal1 review →

Flexible low monthly entry

From $9.99/month

iPostal1 advertises a $9.99 monthly Green plan at qualifying addresses. PostScan Mail advertises monthly Starter plans from $10. Verify the exact location and scan fees.

Frequent scanning

Included pages can win

Traveling Mailbox starts at $15/month with 35 included scanned pages. A higher subscription may become cheaper when several documents must be read remotely every month.

Important: “cheapest” only applies among the options we compare and under stated assumptions. An address in Las Vegas is not a substitute for one in Miami; a personal plan is not automatically suitable for business mail; and an annual equivalent is not necessarily available as a monthly payment.

Our real-cost model

How the cheapest mailbox changes with your usage

These calculations use the same pricing functions as our comparison engine. The three examples deliberately hold mail volume, scan requests, page counts and postage assumptions constant across providers.

Scenarios used throughout the tables

Light mail: 10 incoming items, 3 scan requests (18 pages), 1 forwarding shipment of 4 items, $8 assumed total postage per month.
Frequent scans: 25 incoming items, 8 scan requests (45 pages), 2 shipments of 12 items, $15 assumed total postage per month.
High-volume mail: 55 incoming items, 20 scan requests (120 pages), 4 shipments of 30 items, $28 assumed total postage per month.

Postage is a user-style estimate, not a provider quote. Storage is set to zero. The high-volume example measures mail-handling costs, not eligibility to use a personal plan for an LLC or business name.

Option A — Paying month to month

This table excludes PO Box Zone because its published plans are paid annually. It uses the monthly rate for U.S. Global Mail, not its lower annual-rate price.

Option B — Twelve-month budget, using annual deals where available

For iPostal1, PostScan Mail, PO Box Zone and U.S. Global Mail, the model compares their published annual-plan rates. For Traveling Mailbox and VirtualPostMail, it annualizes the regular monthly price without inventing an annual discount. Twelve identical months of usage are assumed.

How to read these figures: bold green figures identify the lowest modeled price among comparable published plans in the relevant table, not a universal winner. Values include the scenario’s total monthly postage assumption but exclude unmodeled expenses such as premium-address fees, taxes, packaging, international customs, nonstandard storage, check deposits, subscription setup and recipient overages. Annual projections represent an unchanged workload repeated for 12 months; they are not quotes, guaranteed offers or always a single annual invoice. PO Box Zone, iPostal1 and PostScan Mail annual plans require the provider’s stated billing terms.

Buying advice

The lowest subscription is not always the lowest yearly bill

Only a few letters each month

Start with price—but check address coverage

If you rarely request scans, a $99 annual starting subscription can be attractive. PO Box Zone is only relevant if Las Vegas or Casper suits you. iPostal1 offers broader choice, but the $99 annual deal is tied to eligible address categories; some locations cost more.

Also inspect junk-mail handling, the included incoming-item limit, how long envelopes are held and what happens when you cancel or need a forwarding shipment.

Compare iPostal1 with PO Box Zone →

You scan mail regularly

Included scans may save more than $5 a month

A plan with no included content scans charges you whenever you need to read the inside of an envelope. That can reverse the ranking between a $9.99 address and a $15/month scan-inclusive plan. Count requests and pages separately: providers may charge per opened envelope, per page, or both.

Traveling Mailbox includes a 35-page allowance on Basic; VirtualPostMail’s $20 Starter plan includes ten content-scan requests. Their allowances are not measured in exactly the same units, so verify the full terms.

You want mail forwarded overseas

Do not confuse handling fees with shipping

Many services let you combine letters before forwarding. This can reduce the number of chargeable dispatches but may introduce packaging, storage or repacking fees. The price of the mailbox itself usually tells you little about the postage to another country.

Choose your destination first, check whether the location offers the carriers you need, and use a realistic postage budget. If you mainly need information from your mail, scanning first and forwarding fewer originals may be cheaper.

You are opening or running a business

Cheap personal mail is not always business-ready

Do not use a personal mailbox price as the projected cost of receiving company-name correspondence without checking plan eligibility. Additional recipients, check deposits, business mail processing, tax letters and service of process may each require a different plan or separate service.

A commercial mail receiving agency (CMRA) address is not automatically a residential address, registered agent or bank-acceptable operating location. Compare functionality and compliance before comparing dollars.

How MailboxScout determines the cheapest option

First, we collect each provider’s published base subscription and note whether a promotional price depends on address choice or yearly billing. Second, we compare predictable service charges: mail-item overages, content-scan requests, scan-page allowances and forwarding handling. Third, we include one identical illustrative postage budget for each scenario. We use the lowest eligible published plan within each billing model and display the outcome side by side.

We do not pretend to know the actual carrier rate for every destination or the local fees charged by every Anytime Mailbox operator. We therefore show “Local quote required” for that marketplace rather than entering a fictional universal price. We also exclude costs the current calculator does not model reliably, such as premium addresses, check deposits, physical package storage, special handling, sales taxes and international duties. Provider fees and available locations can change.

The annual table accounts for published annual discounts where we have verified a plan rate. It is a budget tool, not a guarantee of a fixed invoice: forwarding and postal fees can fluctuate, some plans require prepayment, and recurring usage rarely stays identical for twelve months. Our Real Cost Calculator lets you replace the example workload with your own numbers.

When a PO Box or a premium plan may be a better deal

If you live near a post office and mostly collect letters in person, a traditional USPS PO Box may be cheaper for your specific ZIP code and size. But a PO Box is not a direct substitute for online content scanning. Some USPS branches offer a street-addressing option; check the exact location and eligible carrier services. Our PO Box vs virtual mailbox comparison explains the trade-offs.

Similarly, a business receiving dozens of sensitive documents may save staff time with a more expensive mail-processing workflow, even when the cash subscription looks high. That is why our Best Virtual Mailbox ranking evaluates fit and usability rather than choosing the single smallest number.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about cheap virtual mailboxes

What is the cheapest virtual mailbox in 2026?

For a low-cost published annual entry plan, both PO Box Zone and iPostal1 advertise $99 per year, subject to address and plan restrictions. PostScan Mail advertises an annual Starter rate of $100. These are starting subscriptions, not complete usage costs, and the lowest-cost suitable service depends on the address you need.

Is a $9.99 virtual mailbox really $9.99 per month?

It can be the base subscription price, but scans, mail overages, forwarding handling, postage, storage, extra recipients and premium-location charges may increase the total. Check the exact location and plan.

Which cheap virtual mailbox includes scanning?

Traveling Mailbox lists 35 page scans per month on its $15 Basic plan. VirtualPostMail includes 10 content scan requests in its $20 Starter plan. Other low-priced plans may charge for content scans or include different allowances.

Can I pay PO Box Zone monthly?

Its published entry plan is billed annually at $99. The $8.25 per month figure is only an equivalent for comparing annual budgets, not an advertised monthly payment option.

Are shipping and forwarding included in cheap mailbox plans?

Do not assume so. A forwarding request may incur handling fees plus the actual carrier postage, insurance, packaging or other destination-specific charges. The example totals in our table use a clearly stated assumed postage budget.

Is the cheapest personal mailbox suitable for an LLC?

Not necessarily. A personal plan may not accept mail addressed to a company, and a CMRA mailbox is not automatically an eligible registered-agent address, licensed office or business bank address. Verify each intended use and compare business-specific plans.

Which provider is cheapest for frequent international travelers?

There is no universal answer because shipping costs and destination restrictions vary. Travelers who read many letters online should compare included content scans, page limits, international forwarding and shipping fees rather than base price alone.
